Sami - Heartbeat

So I met Sami last year at one of my internships…she was 14 when I met her. She looked older than me and has a voice that is WAY beyond her years. When I was 14, I was afraid to look people in the eye and I was definitely going through my awkward phase. Well, she’s 15 now, still not going through an awkward phase (not fair) and she finally came out with a video of her singing live. Keep in mind this girl is only 15 years old…it doesn’t make sense. Listen below and follow her on FB here and on Twitter here

Casely - Keep

So I learned about Casely after I heard his song, ‘Emotional’ a few years back (the song got some airplay mainly on the northeast). He now has a new song out called ‘Keep’. You can download it for free, so duh, I downloaded it and though it’s repetitive, I like it.

His songs are pretty…simple, but he knows how to write a good hook and the songs stay stuck in your head for days whether you like it or not…though eventually you learn to like it. ‘Emotional’ was my favorite song for few months, so check that out below:

(It picks up at the 1 minute mark)

What is up with Mob Wives Soundtrack?

The most ridiculous show (in a bad way) has the most RIDICULOUS soundtrack (in a good way)…see what I did there?

I’ve found so many good songs/artists from that show. The newest one is singer, NABIHA. She has a lot of previews of her songs on her youtube page…I think her album is dropping soon. I’ll post more on this later. Listen to ‘Can’t do Anything’ here:

Buy Echosuite EP on iTunes now NOW!

So my last post talked about how excited I was to go to the EP release concert of my friend’s band, Echosuite. Well, I got there, and it was sold out. He felt really bad cuz I guess a lot of Echosuite’s friends were turned away.

I wasn’t upset because 1) I drank beer and ate spinach pizza instead, and 2) these guys deserve to be selling out their concerts. They are so good. I feel weird gushing over a friend’s band, but seriously, this band is something special. The lead singer, Justin, has such a beautiful voice (classically trained, holla) and the band’s style is so familiar…but still original enough to set them apart and keep you god. damn. ENTRANCED!

Echosuite’s EP, Our Noisy Culture is now available on iTunes neeeowww! At least listen to the little free snippets on iTunes if you’re too poor/too proud to buy music in this day and age. LISTEN.

Cross between Lovedrug and Coldplay…ECHOSUITE

I’m a musical person…I hang around a lot of musicians and I think it’s safe to say I know a lot of people in bands. I’ve gone to a lot of concerts, heard a lot of EPs, but none has gotten me more excited than my friend’s new band, Echosuite. I’m going to see them tomorrow (Wednesday the 22nd) at the Mercury Lounge in NYC and I’m SO EXCITED. Hear their song House in My Hands now:

Gotye-Making Mirrors. An Album With A Lot of Variety, and It’s All Great.

My friend showed me Gotye a few weeks ago and after listening to this aussie singer’s album whilst hiking, driving, and fb creeping (among other activities), I have to say I am a fan.

This album is anything but boring. Never have I heard an album with so many varying styles…and it all works! There’s chill songs, upbeat songs, a song that seems pulled straight out of the Motown era, and I mean he must have been influenced by The Culture Club as a kid…just listen to Gotye’s track, ‘In Your Light’. Seriously.

We all know the classic, ‘Karma Chameleon’. So first, listen to this…

Now listen to this…

Ya??? Agreed???

Anyway, download the album. Currently, my favorite song is the motown-ish song ‘I Feel Better’. Here’s a list of the rest of my faves on the album:

Easy Way Out’ …Fun, upbeat and catchy

‘Eyes Wide Open’…His next single..first was Somebody That I Used to Know

‘Giving me a Chance’…CHILL

‘Save Me’…Such a pretty melody

Sentimental Love Song

Hopefully, you’ve already heard of singer/songwriter Iron and Wine but perhaps not his song, The Trapeze Swinger. I guess the song, which has been out for a few years, has been featured on a few movie soundtracks but is not on any of his albums. Though the lyrics are very personal (he basically is singing about a past relationship of his), the song is still relatable as it talks about finding love, losing it and remembering it fondly.

This 10 minute song coaxes you to remember the beautiful and painful emotions associated with past love while hypnotizing you with a simple, lovely and repetitive melody.
